What legal liability does a company in California face when an employee writes – from the office and on company time – a slanderous review for a business in which services were not received?

What implications for the employee, if any, are there? Termination? Sanction, restitution? It depends on the state laws from where it originated from. If loss of profit to the business occurred due to the slander, there could be additional consequences.

A counter or parallel lawsuit may also incur additional liability. Other organizations and boards may also want to investigate to determine if there are any other frauds occurring there.
