It’s one dimensional and tinted lightly with colored pencils. There are no stray marks outside the lines. It’s a person who does everything by the book. The picture depicts lemons on a tree without leaves.

What do you think of when you see a lemon tree coming up in the near future?

An opportunity has presented itself. As I’m touring the building, a door opens to a nicely appointed office with wood-grain accents, bookcases, conference table and desk. Suddenly I get a flash -- smack dab near the desk is this life-size lemon tree. Sigh. Does this opportunity have more bad than good? What is it trying to teach me?

You’ll be disconcerted to know the guy in this position before me, ended his life in that office. He found out about his coworker cooking the books. They were pressuring him to meet his numbers too. They threatened his job and his family. When he uncovered the fraud to his boss, they tried to bribe and extort him. He went along with it for a while, but then couldn’t keep up. He died in the office.

Is this opportunity really worth the lemon tree I ask myself? And, at my expense? Am I willing to take a risk at the expense of being blacklisted, suspended or worse, arrested? I think not. It’s a disappointment; their intention was to blacklist me in the community, write a scathing Google review, and if I didn’t comply with their requests, extortion would follow.
